About Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis

There are many theoretical fundaments and methodologies on how to work in psychotherapy with patients. The one that has originated the psychotherapy work is Psychoanalysis, created by Freud in more than a century ago. Since then the psychoanalytical body of theories as well as its methodologies have developed and evolved widely, mainly in Europe, North America and South America creating many lines of work and thought within the psychoanalytic community.
The common-core to all of these lines is the belief that conscious life is only an aspect of human life and that there is a lot more about ourselves that we don't know and we can discover. What lies unknown within ourselves is what keeps so many analysts humbly and persistently approaching through deep exploration of the human conscious and unconscious mind. Devoting their lives with deep commitment to their patients, their apprentices and themselves towards the understanding of how to improve people's everyday and present life by integrating, developing and maturing through deep self-understanding and self-knowledge.
My Training and Work

I was trained as a psychologist in Universidad del Salvador, Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a solid
psychoanalytic foundation followed by years of continuing education in the field and more than14 years of my own analysis with renown analysts throughout my career.

In my practice I offer psychoanalytic therapy as well as psychotherapy, this means that even if my understanding of human life and mind is based in psychoanalytic concepts I approach each patient according to the realities and characteristics of each person that I admit for treatment. Sometimes there is a need for short term interventions or goal oriented treatments that call for a different approach and strategy.

Long term treatments modalities through the exploration of the unconscious mind offers more permanent changes of dysfunctional patterns of behavior.

Short term treatments modalities that are only symptom relieving offer a less permanent change in patterns of behavior and a higher chance of recidivism of symptoms.

What to expect in your first session

In a first session I usually like to carefully hear what each person brings leaving the space as open as possible for each individual to feel comfortable to open up at their own pace. There is a smooth transition into the treatment as I take a few sessions before I make a recommendation as which modality of treatment is the most recommended. After treatment options are discussed, we establish a fixed slot of time according to the frequency agreed to which both the therapist and patient commit.
